D.U.S.T

Disciples Unceasingly Seeking Truth is open for 7th-12 graders. Meetings are 3:30--8:00 pm Wednesday. This group helps the youth to understand the influence that they can have with Christ as their leader and guide in their lives. They should seek to be his disciples.

If you take the time to study the Jewish educational system, you learn a lot regarding what people in Jesus' culture meant when they used the word "disciple." A disciple was someone who was chosen by their rabbi to learn and understand the scriptures. Being a disciple was a huge honor. If you were chosen (normally around age 14), you would leave everything; parents, synagogue, community, the family business, and devote your life to following your rabbi everywhere. The goal of a disciple was to be exactly like his rabbi. There is a phrase, found in the Mishna )the first section of the Talmud) that was often used to explain this devotion. They'd say, "may you be covered in the dust of your rabbi." The idea was that as you followed closely behind your rabbi, on the dusty roads, you would get covered in this dust. Thus, D.U.ST. will remind the youth that they must have a passionate devotion to our Lord and Savior, our :Rabbi," Jesus Christ. They should desire to be so much like our creator that they will be "covered in His dust"!
