Sermon Text: John 9:1-41

Title :WHAT DO YOU SEE?

INTRODUCTION

1.      Have you ever experienced blindness?

2.      Amazing Grace – “I was blind but now I see.”

GOD OPENS THE EYES OF THE BLIND

1.      The man in our text was born blind, but by the grace of God he was healed. John 9:15 “Therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. "He put mud on my eyes," the man replied, "and I washed, and now I see."

2.      This same man was spiritually blind, but Jesus gave him eyes of faith. Jon 9:37 “Jesus said, "You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you."

3.      God decides who will see. In Exodus 4:11 “The LORD said to him, "Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD ?”

SOME PEOPLE CHOOSE TO LIVE IN DARKNESS

1.      The Pharisees refused to see the truth. John 9:34 “To this they replied, "You were steeped in sin at birth; how dare you lecture us!" And they threw him out.”

2.      Many blind people enjoy having the blind lead them. Matthew 15:14 “Leave them; they are blind guides. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit."

3.      The world is accustomed to living in darkness. Ephesians 4:18 “They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.”

CHILDREN OF GOD CHOOSE TO LIVE IN THE LIGHT

1.      Our hope is found in God. 2 Corinthians 4:6 “For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness,"[made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.”

2.      Once our eyes are opened our lives change.  Ephesians 5:8 “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.”

3.      We help others see by letting our light shine into their darkness. Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
