Sermon Outline for Easter Sunday * March 23, 2008 Text * Matthew 28:1-10

Title * RESURRECTION FAITH

INTRODUCTION

A.          Is the old saying “Seeing is believing” true?

B.          How many things do you believe in that you have not seen?

1. Resurrection faith is a gift from God.

A.            To receive the gift of faith we must be in God’s Word – Romans 10:17 “Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.”

B.          You know you have resurrection faith when you want to share it – Romans 10:9 “If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

2. Resurrection faith believes the words of Scripture about Jesus Christ

A.            Prophets foretold his death and resurrection – Isaiah 53:5 “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.”

B.          Jesus himself taught death and resurrection – John 14:19-20 “Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.”

3. Resurrection faith believes in the words of Scripture for my salvation.

A.            Physical evidences are not the root of faith – Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”

B.          All who believe have salvation – John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

CONCLUSION

A.          Good Friday was either the end of Christ or the end of sin.

B.          He is risen. He is risen indeed!
