Sermon Outline for April 13, 2008 – Fourth Sunday of Easter Text: John 10:1-10

Title: A FAMILIAR VOICE

1. WHAT SOUNDS AND VOICES CATCH YOUR EAR?

a.         You need to be careful who you are listening to.

John 10:1 "I tell you the truth, the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber.”

b.         Some Shepherds are leading people astray.

Romans 1:21 “For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.”

c. We need to know Christ’s voice.

John 10:4 “When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.”

2. NOW IS THE TIME TO OPEN YOUR EARS TO JESUS

a.      Do you remember the parable of the “Rich Fool”?

Luke 12:20 “God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?'

b.      The Bible urges us to respond to Jesus now.

Isaiah 55:6 “Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near.”

c. God the Father instructed us all to listen to Jesus. Matthew 17:5 "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!"

3. KNOWING JESUS’ VOICE HAS GREAT BENEFITS

a.      Those who respond have a full life.

John 10:10 “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

b.      God’s word fills us with Joy.

John 15:11 “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”

c. Our Shepherd leads us into Greener Pastures.

Psalm 23:2-3 “He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul.”
